Ueno (Part II)

______________________

Departing Akihabara, we headed back for Ueno. This is our final destination for the day and also time to do some serious last minute shopping...

Ueno is best known as the home of Ueno Station and Ueno Park and is a great stop for buying titbits as souvenirs for friends, colleagues and family…

BTW, Ueno Park (located within Ueno) is one of Japan’s most popular and crowded spots for Hanami (Cherry Blossom viewing) parties...

Location: Japan - Tokyo

Ueno Station…

Overlooking the busy Ueno Station…

OICITY… One of the shopping mall just outside Ueno Station…

Capsule hotel, one of the unique features of Japan,
where guest gets to sleep in a modular plastic (roughly 2m X 1m X 1.25m)…
Vance: The Sauna is built right inside the Capsule, so you can enjoy it all night! (Joking!)

Lunch at Ueno…

Ramen!
Vance: Fiona's craving for the day! Basically the food choice for the moment
is decided by her craving at that very instance :P

In Japan, the amount that you pay for food in restaurant is
exactly the amount that’s printed on the menu.
i.e. price includes GST and service charge.
That’s an idea that I feel that Singapore should adopt…

Somehow we didn’t get sick of Japanese food even after 2 weeks plus…

Another mini bike spotted in the streets of Ueno…

Police car patrolling Ueno…
Vance: And they are using a super mini car to get around the small lanes of Tokyo ;)

Aaaaahhhh! This adorable pooh was spotted in one of the UFO machines in Ueno…

We tried this UFO machine… Target looks easy but we were totally wrong!
JPY1,000 (S$13) wasted on several attempts…

Carebears!

This version of carebears looks exclusive… I don’t think they are originals…

Since I didn’t managed to grab any UFO poohs,
I decided to buy these home instead! What an excellent excuse!

The thing about Japanese Pooh, they are distinctive and focus on details.
The pooh faces are prettier unlike USA’s Poohs…

Along Ameyoko, it is a packed shopping bazaar full of stalls selling almost anything you can imagine…

Ameyoko runs roughly south of Ueno station along the
inside of the JR Yamanote line tracks to Okachimachi station.

If you are looking for a more typically "Asian"
market street in Tokyo, with bargaining expected and
friendly vendors trying to out-shout each other, Ameyoko is it.
Definitely a good place for souvenirs for friends back home…

Various products such as clothes, bags, cosmetics, fresh fish,
dried food and spices are sold along Ameyoko…

This is the store that we brought the Japanese Titbits from…
We didn’t try to bargain and the seller actually automatically gave discounts to us…

And this Japanese stall owner could speak some Chinese!

Dinner time…

It’s a Japanese sushi restaurant located within Ueno Station…

Waited for around 15 mins… Not too long but we are two hungry hamsters!
A hungry hamster is a an angry hamster and there’s 2 angry hamsters here…

BTW, sushi are priced based on per piece on the menu.
In this restaurant, you have to order minimum 2 piece per plate.
i.e. prices starts from JPY300 (S$3.90) per plate (JPY150 X 2 pieces)…

English menu available…

Looks good!

Say cheese!

Gigantic fish roe on the sushi… Yummy!

Finally done for the day… On train back to Shin-Okachimachi station…

Japanese young lady wearing Kinomo… A common scene in Japan…

Exquisite décor in Ueno station…
